We don’t usually do the christmas stocking thing over here in Singapore, but just in case you were looking for something small to tickle my fancy…

As mentioned before, with the exams here, I’ve been really busy making mindmaps for my open-book quizzes and examinations. Studying with colour makes studying a bit more fun (:
Plus! I get to save the trees. Instead of printing 10 week’s powerpoint slides, averaging 50 slides each. I just bring 10 pieces of paper!

I didn’t realise the amount of mindmapping I’ve been doing till today, when the, albeit cheap ($0.85), markers I’ve been using have started to go dry. :/ I’ve resorted to standing them on tip to make more ink flow and make my mindmapping a bit easier!

And yeap! It does say ‘GUCCI’. The family and company’s history is one of the case studies we looked at. Family feuding, sibling rivalry, tax fraud, murder and all.

For all of you who didn’t manage to catch any Comme des Garcons for H&M action, the good people at DRESSCODE have braved the wind and rain, ploughed through the crowds, and made it back to Singapore with a few select pieces!
I did some homework. (I wish I could say the same about my school work HAHA.) I called them up immediately to find out what they were bringing in.
They’ve got the drop crotch pants, large polka dot cardigan, pencil skirt and pleated skirt, the side zip jacket (sadly that’s the only jacket they snapped up), the dress (!!! but it’s going for over a thousand buckaroos), the polka dot shirt, plain shirt, high waist cropped pants and I can’t remember what else. You go do some legwork!
I hear most pieces are in UK10/12 (which is MY size HAHA) so.. unlucky you, if you’re slim and skinny
Prices start from SGD100.
I was gonna keep this to myself, because who wants to share a queue?!?!?! Or excluuuusive pieces from this line without booking an air ticket?
I’ll still be going down, but just to survey the pieces. I got received my white frilled long sleeve blouse from an ebay seller today and I’m very very pleased with it
DRESSCODE is located at The Cathay #01-07, and they will be open from 12 noon on 28 November (which is when they will “launch” the collection in their boutique). See you fellow mad mall rats there!

If you hadn’t had your fill at the previous Fash Bash, it’s back again even before you can say “When can we manoeveur the crazy crowds and dangerous deals at Fash Bash again?!” Alright, that was a bit long.
So that’s happening on Saturday, 6 December, from 5pm to midnight and a spanking new location that is The Cathay! I think it’s at the atrium outside the box office.
I’m pretty adamant about making it there before 5pm so that I can scramble to Baylene and Hansel and Swirl and a new addition – Epitome, ASAP! You hear me? ASAP!
I’m thinking of conjuring up another 3 mini-me(s) to accomodate the madness and maximize shopping ability.
What are your plans?

Sarah has been a busy bee, mindmapping like crazy.
But, she managed to catch the Singapore Biennale (on its very last day)

at the South Beach Development site. (the orange has been painted onto the building so that from the camera’s reference point, it looks surreal)
[excuse the casual dressing, it was a warm & humid day]
I also visited the City Hall site. But my favourite was Joshua Yang’s Impossibility of Superstring Theory 2008

image from here. And previously blogged about here (: Having come across Joshua’s work on several occasions, I really enjoy the sense of connection with the artist and the amount of insight you have into their thoughts because, at least, some of them are penned directly onto the art piece itself. I laughed when it read “THE LEAVES ARE NOT PART OF THIS ARTWORK!!!”. I imagine a windy (threatening-to-rain) day and a gush brings in the leaves as they are working, thus triggering the response. This sense of story-telling and capture of process really appeals to me.

In the midst of studying for my examinations, I’d like to say thank you to Fujitsu…
For making laptops with a spill-resistant feature, for clumsy users. (like me!!) yeah.. my love for tea (and need for caffeine) have gotten acquainted with my laptop on two occasions already.

“Taking the world by storm” often connotes a great deal of fan fare and publicity, an outbreak of some sort, going about in a frenzied, much talked-about whirl, but is more often than not, short-lived.
A little school excursion to (….drumroll please!) Charles & Keith, no not one of the twenty-something outlets very strategically located around this little island, or the hundreds all across some of Asia and Middle-East, but C&K HQ, YO! – made me realize that this locally born shoe and accessories label is taking the world by storm, one after another and another, and another.. and another…
Here’s a picture of the glowing reception because I was too busy ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the rest of the building and its furnishings to take photos of them.

Charles Wong, the director of C&K spoke us – a handful of undergraduates doing a module in marketing and retailing – very candidly and personably about how C&K was formed just when he was just about… 22 years of age? (He’s 34 now, and C&K started in 1996, so correct me if I’m wrong.) He spoke about how partners met, deals were made, C&K went overseas, accessories and bags were added, Pedro came into place – with all sorts of delectable details and humourous anecdotes.
My friend and I were gushing about this awesome opportunity we had, meeting someone as successful as him in the flesh (albeit not making an impression, asking for his namecard and a possible summer internship(!!!) OR taking any photos of him -_-), and taking a look at the hugeeeeee showroom with I think what were unreleased designs?

Room full of shoes and bags. Girls. Squealing. Can you blame us?

But we managed to pull it together for a shot in front of the glorious shoes.
Pity we spent a total of three. friggin. minutes. in the showroom, but good that we did because I think we might have gone even more hysterical, fangirlish and (insert other embarrassing adjectives).
C&K in numbers
- C&K has been around for over a decade.
- Two new shoe and one new bag design are added to the product line-up everyday.
- There are twenty plus stores in Singapore. Click here for full list of stores
- One new shop is opened every week somewhere around the world. (!!!!!!!!!!!!)
- C&K plans to about 500 more stores in the next 5 years.
- C&K products will always be cheaper in Singapore. If it is priced at SGD36, it will be priced USD36 overseas and converted to the local currency. (YAYNESS!)
For more stories about Charles & Keith, click 1, 2.
And since I know for sure that C&K will always be cheaper from our sunny island, allow me to share with you some pictures from their Autumn/Winter 2008/2009 collection!

This pair will certainly be coming home with me.

Hmm. Taking ideas off Prada/Miu Miu. I’ve seen a little Chloe in the collection as well.
I recently read a blog entry somewhere about the whole (insert high fashion label)-inspired phenomenon that high street retailers are guilty of. It isn’t very ethical, but I wouldn’t be one launching a campaign against it! Rip-offs don’t draw away the target market of these labels. They’re rich and they’re loyal. Anyway it makes new ideas and styles (note: I didn’t use trends! Scary/sensitive word.) available and accessible to the average Joe (me! me! Jo!).
I think I’ll succumb to rip-off at times, but not without feeling immense guilt at cheating the effort and genius of a designer (albeit getting a much better deal
). But don’t quote me on that. Don’t quote me on that either!

Pictures from Charles & Keith.
I think I’m a little too fond of digressing, hence my delinquent use of parenthesis.
