My love and appreciation for vintage togs has blossomed over the past year.

Dress: vintage, ‘thrifted’ from X-wen
Belt: Cotton On
However, sometimes…
I still have troubles reconciling with the “kindergarten school teacher” feeling I get.

I love how the dress mirrors the runway in that there are petals all over. Or at least I think that’s what they are!

Givenchy Spring 2009 Couture
Couture in close-ups. I wouldn’t have it any other way this season – somewhat short of spectacularly staggering. You think?

OMG GIORDANO CONCEPTS HAS CLOSED DOWN IN SINGAPORE.
HELP. I AM SEVERELY DEPRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was walking at Wisma Atria yesterday with my cousin, and we were sooo excited about visiting Giordano Concepts because she was raving about the one in HK. We wanted to see what new stuff they put up. As we approached, we saw a huge SALE sign in red outside the sleek monotone interiors of the shop. Then she shrieked, “IT’S NOT GIORDARNO CONCEPTS! IT’S GIORDANO!”
Like, wtf, wtf, wtf wtf?!
Anyway, I snapped up a few of whatever’s left of Giordano Concepts in the shop that had “GIORDANO” rudely plastered over the “Giordano Concepts” sign.

Now this one in Mongkok is calling me… I need to make a trip down in June/July/August. Which is the best time for sales?

Even though I am into my fourth week of school. It was only less than a week ago that I came to the realization that I attend 7 classes in my 5-day week! (6 classes plus one, where I sit in as a Teaching Assistant)
Which, on top of translating into being utterly worn by the end of each week, also doubles as a preemptive warning for the sparse updates on my part (But I promise to do my very best!)
But, despite whatever curve balls school may throw my way, I always feel that surrounding yourself with your Happies help (:

Old(ish-looking) Bag: from mom
New Dress: Gap (from sister)
Borrowed Tank: from sister
Blue Vest: my childhood
Tired face: SMU
Wardrobe choices, most recently, have been determined by the culmination of long hours (10++) in school, meetings (both frequency & duration), classes and the number of books I have to carry.
This long, tiered, purple, cross-back cotton jersey dress is a god-send! It is uber comfortable, yet everyone seems to think its ‘difficult’ to wear. When I disclose that this dress set my sister back $12 (purchased in Indonesia), in my heart, I smile with glee! hehes
Whats more,

This backpack 1. Frees up my hands to switch textbooks & laptop from one tired hand to another. 2. Distributes the weight in my bag to BOTH shoulders. 3. Forces me to carry fewer ‘essentials’, thus making my bag lighter still. 4. Is such a cute bag!
Embossed, at the top where the stitching of the shoulder straps meet the bag, is ‘Good Old Days’.

So, if it reminds you of those old school bags, that my mom would have carriend when she was 10.. Its suppose to!

Every Chinese New Year, you have to put up with lots of stuff.
Crowds, weird relatives, fully booked nail parlours, hairdressers, restaurants… yada yada yada. That’s a whole lot of bull, isn’t it? (ooo almost clever pun! I know almost all of us have used the niu thing. We must stop now.)
Okay rant over.
I’ve been wearing stripes for CNY two years in a row. Striped dresses – to be exact. This one is from Soon Lee (very auspicious name btw, for all you unknowing readers) (:

Dress: Black and white striped dress with ruffles from Soon Lee
Shoes: Square-toed car print block heels from Nue
Bag: Black clutch from Accessorize
On my boyfriend,
Top: Asymmetrical striped shirt from nicholas
Bottom: Black tapered pants from Grey Homme (officially his favourite place to shop)
Shoes: Navy boat shoes from Sperry Top Sider
Scarf: Knitted by my aunt for me
Bag: totally random

I don’t know if this was a bit of an overkill – I wore the dress with my black and white striped heels by hansel, and carried a striped paper bag for oranges too for the next day. Oops!
Happy New Year! Hopefully there are more occasions for ang pow collecting for all of us (:
It’s about 7 hours more till all Chinese children and singles are eligible to receive an auspicious red packet from their elders.
I am SO excited because I am experiencing a serious deficit since my trip to Bangkok (oh yes I have yet to blog about what I bought).
Well but before you get the happy packet of awesome monetary goodness, you must exchange a pair of oranges and some auspicious 4-worded phrases.
Thank goodness I have yet to be someone to have to give out the would-be hole-in-my-pocket scary packet…
But if you were ever to exchange oranges with me, you’d get a fatter red packet by exchanging these..

Little tangerine mary-janes from Em & Sprout

Orange fleece oval bag from Knit Knit.
Good size to stuff money and oranges.
Actually I think just by wearing and carrying these my relatives would be so tickled and pleased I would win more money at mahjong and maybe get a fatter red packet.
Ah. Better luck next year!
Happy new year! Gong xi fa cai!
Looks like Marc Jacobs isn’t the only one to be putting animals on human feet!

Lindsay of Em & Sprout makes the cutest and the most whimsical canvas mary-janes by adding felt and buttons to simple flats.
I think she makes me like chihwahwas! They’re too small and loud for anyone’s or any dog’s good – but they look good on feet
hehe.

I guess it would be easy to wave these aside and mutter a stinging, “Childish!” I initially thought that they were meant for kids too!

I think Lindsay is good about customizing shoes… so I think I might drop her a message or two and work out my ideal pair soon!

Its not often that you come across a company that dedicates itself to a cause wholeheartedly. And with all the buzz (in school) about the dire world economy, hope seems even more hard to come by.

Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) is a clothing company with heart. A simple philosophy, a movement – one ARK every time the clothing is worn.
For 28 pounds, lads and ladies can purchase a polo tee in grey, not-quite white or mint to show your support for ARK’s cause: Kindness.

Note: Colours may not be completely accurate in photo above.
Every time you wear the polo, you are suppose to perform a random act of kindness to anyone. (:
Furthermore, Cameron, the person behind ARK, blogged about his trip to China to source for an ethical factory to produce these tees. (read more: here) [The company's Frequently Asked Questions also explains the reasoning behind ARK.]
And yet another commendable arm of ARK is its commitment to paying it forward. If you have any sound charitable ideas that require funding, you can apply for funding from ARK and share your stories with the ARK community on their website.
Its refreshing to see someone doing things differently (:
-Sarah, feeling inspired.

In conjunction with the Business School Society’s Annual Bash, The Fashion Fraternity has compiled a lookbook to inspire partygoers to dress to the theme: Caged Inhibitions.

I helped out the girls from in this photoshoot collaboration. It was interesting night shoot at Fort Canning.

Kudos to the photographer, Wayne, dedicated to his craft. On several occasions, he was sprawled on the (dirty) ground to get the angles just right and he kept the mood very fun.

And kudos to the girls who had to balance on uneven ground in heels and stand still as mosquitoes fed on them.

Check out more of the images here.

Balmain jacket, Miu Miu dress and bag, leopard bodysuit…
There’s no other way to look ferosha! (reading too much BB) with grime under your feet, dust combing through your hair and sand flying into your eyes. HAHA.
(Sorry I can’t remember where this came from!)
