I first met Marilyn Tan at Blueprint 2010 and was rather taken by her jewelry for their organic and unique design elements.

Over the weekend, she very kindly invited Wottoncool to a viewing of her Semi-precious and South China Sea Pearl Jewelry at her business partner’s home.

I really appreciate that Marilyn’s style is not constricted to one type of accessory, one type of material, one type of look. Instead, she changes things up over and over. Rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, brooches, chokers and everything in between could all be found in the living room turned makeshift viewing room for this exquisite (and expensive) range of jewelry.

Compared to the spread at Blueprint, the South China Sea Pearls were something completely new. Pretty as pearl are, they’ve never really been my thing.

But!
That was until Marilyn introduced me to Keshi pearls.
According to Wiki, “keshi pearls formed as by-products of pearl cultivation”. Which, simply put, means that random grit that enters a mollusk and the shell coats this irregular-shaped dirt to produce an irregularly-shaped keshi pearl.

I think its an absolutely beautiful thing to celebrate. The sheer randomness and uniqueness of each keshi pearl.

And over and over, I felt that Marilyn did so beautifully by shaping the settings of each pearl to mold around each pearl in embracing unison.

The second series utilized semi-precious stones of various sorts, all combined in different ways that appeals to (I am assuming here) a very wide variety of clientele.

This statement necklace could be worn two ways, one with each clasp showing as an accent to the stones. Or with the clasps hidden from view, giving the illusion that the stones magically float around your neck.
hahas.
That would be a statement for sure.

I apologize that the temperature of the photographs are off. I am still learning about the nuances of my new camera (aka baby)

Another smaller collection were of resin rings, earrings and bracelets. Some with more oomph! in the form of swarovski crystals. (:

I hope that we see more of Marilyn Tan’s work in editorials.

And I aspire to one day be able to guiltlessly afford one (or two) of her pieces in the future.
For now, taking pictures is all I can afford. (:
And you can see more of Marilyn Tan’s work here.
A sporty lifestyle no longer connotes with ratty tees and shapeless sweats. Seek the same comfort with oodles more style in clothes that move with you, not against. Be invigorated as you face each day with personality-packed pieces from the Adidas Seoul series.

The Adidas Seoul watch is massive, to say the least. At supper one evening, my friend from diagonally across the table could tell the time and happily gave us time updates throughout the evening (: !
In addition to the lovely colours (: I can’t help it, I like blue. A lot) I quite like the fact that the watch has functions such as stopwatch, timer and alarm which are all very intuitive to navigate through.
And it’s relatively affordable at $120, considering its by Adidas…

However, I find that its almost always a slippery slope when it comes to sportswear. In order to match your watch and shoes and bag and clothes, the items you pull out get increasingly more sloppy.
Of course it’s relatively simple when pairing Adidas with Adidas (above) or having a common thread like similar colour scheme and sporty elements like white piping (below).

But when tasked with the challenge of putting together a look that encapsulates a ‘Sporty Lifestyle’ for a mini Facebook competition…
I had to rack my brains a little to think up something good. The following are some attempts that didn’t make my cut.

Awkward as this jumping shot is, I quite liked it.

This, I felt, was too static.

This (above) was the image I had originally picked. However the Adidas people didn’t like it as much ))):

A big shout out to my sisters who help me take this photo. Holding the umbrella and frantically snapping away in the darkness as I try to get the shot.
Can you tell? It was drizzling when we were taking this?

In the photo (with crazymad hair) I am wearing a cuttlefish wings blouse (a gift from Jo), drop-crotch pants from Giordano ladies, perforated white leather flats from New Look, leather cuff from Bus Stop and Adidas Seoul – Argentina.
And then there was also the series of failed attempts…

TQVM! <3!
Two words…
Two magic words that could, would and did make a fair share of ladies’ (and mens’) hearts skip a beat (or two).

BAG SALE.

Inconspicuously hidden between Plaza Sing and The Cathay, the Bag Sale was held at The LUXE Art Museum.
Which I liken to attempting to enter Diagon Alley through a building invisible to muggles or, in this case invisible to the uninformed and oblivious shopper.

On this momentous sale day, crazymad queue abounded for crazymadsalez.

Lucky for us, we managed to get in relatively quickly and quickly set out to score some sweet deals. (:

The first level had the smaller items, wallets mostly. But also key-chains, belts, some polo tees and key pouches.
So naturally,

The second level had the bags.

To the event, I wore a ash-grey drape dress from Giordano ladies, skull scarf as necklace from a night market in Cambodia, boots from Charles & Keith, wood watch from stall in Tampines 1 and wood ring by L’ile aux Ashby.
Arm-candy not included.

I had a lot of fun picking up bags from different brands. Brands that I still cannot afford with my current income, or lack thereof.
But it was nice to be able to see these bags up close. Feel them, hold them, caress them, smell them, love them and yearn for them in the moments that they were in my clutches. Too bad they’ll remain a far-fetched figment of imagination for the time being.

I was quite thankful to have my sister with me. Even though we both left empty-handed, she helped take photos while carrying my own (much cheaper) bag.
Jaclyn: I’m really sorry I couldn’t help you get the bag you wanted. /:

And the cutest bag of the lot. Was this one.

So lowly that it was in a corner, behind a shelf, blocked from view, close to the exit, beside the ‘good (and assumingly more expensive) stuff’ was this adicolor wooded case. I’m not even sure if it was for sale. hahas.
Yes. it was that lowly. But cute nonetheless.

Yesterday evening there was a small bloggers’ party to showcase the range of activities lined up for Shine Youth Festival, which takes up the greater part of July.

In addition to a camera ‘booth’ to Speak your Mind, there were makeup artists on standby to help you gear up in cosplay. Even the boys got quite into it! And a hip hop dance crash course.

Wottoncool supports Shine Youth Festival. Look out for the myriad of activities, events and happenings next month!
Till then, check out our Facebook Page for more photos!

Today, I had the opportunity to have lunch with some of the people at Sony Ericsson.

And over lunch they showed Dinie and I their Xperia and Vivaz series. Some products have been on the market for a bit like the Xperia X10,

while others were fresh releases. Meet Xperia X8.

‘Prototype’ woahx!
Basically, these 2 series of smart phones use the Android platform. As a result, anything Google-related is seamlessly integrated for your convenience! Gmail. Youtube. Maps. Chat. (Google sometimes scares me with regard to how MASSIVE it is) That being said, they didn’t leave out Twitter and Facebook, like who can live without?! duh!

In addition to a lot of oogling and demonstrating the new functions. We had a stab at fiddling with the phones. Above – I’m holding an Xperia X10 mini pro. Below – are the coloured covers for the Xperia X10 mini. (Only the ‘pro’s have the slide-out qwerty keypad)

My favourite of the lot, though, was the Vivaz pro (in black). (: Qwerty keypad FTW!!!

But actually the phone has the best of both worlds. Its got a 3.2 inch touchscreen as well as a qwerty keypad.
Another very awesome feature is the camera – bordering an unassuming, yet respectable 5.1 megapixels, the camera is also enabled with HD recording capabilities and continuous auto-focus. The resulting videos are un-fuzzy and crisp as cucumber!
(no, its not the actual simile, but I don’t care) hehs.

In addition, there is a feature called face recognition. The camera assists you in auto-tagging (HOW AWESOME IS THAT PLS?! To Facebook – please have this feature too!) So once you’ve tagged a friend, the phone will automatically search through the photos and tag your friend on your behalf. Isn’t that so freakishly cool?!
Ok. Its official. I (not-so-secretly) would like this phone.

The Vivaz pro (in black!) <3

Call me conventional for liking Pixie Lott

(Source)
But anyone who sits in a giant teacup(!) in a music video is cool in my books. (:
AND she can sing! (Cos it’s kinda important for a singer to be able to sing eh?!) hahas. I especially like how she changes things up a bit at 1:50/2:20.
From watching some of her music videos…
and scouring the net for more images,

(Sources)
I think I can safely say that Pixie Lott may be the unofficial poster child of Topshop.
hahahas. don’t you think so too?!
Anyway, today (if you can’t already tell) was spent youtube-ing a lot of her videos

and came across one accessory that I really like!

(Source)

Can you tell what it is?

The scrabble ring and hair clip is so cute.
If I didn’t enjoy playing scrabble as much. I’d totally DIY it. But anyway, with the help of trust ol’ google, you can get it for between £4.00 – £7.00 pounds.

KYOOT!
Recently, I chanced upon Nooka and was very taken by their rather unusual watches.

(Source)
Going against every fibre of convention, Nooka watches don’t have the typical (analog or digital) watch face.
I don’t know about you, but as much as I am a fan of the analog, til today I still have trouble reading them. I’d accidentally subtract an hour or add one at whim. Causing the time-inquisitive party to do a double-take and correct me, the watch-wearing one. oops
Instead they have a series of dots, dashes and lines.
How do I tell the time?

(Source)
Basically, they break it down into 3 components. Hours. Minutes. Seconds.
For the gold watch (above), the large(r) circles represent the hours, the long line across the watch depicts minutes and two-digit couple in the corner (I think) represent the seconds.
Therefore reads 8 seconds into (approximately) 4:20 pm.
Interesting, yes? (:

(Source)
These are some of their other designs. I’m so intrigued that there is no watch face. No numbers to tell the time. Just a bunch of dots.
Aren’t you intrigued?

(Source)
Wouldn’t mind getting something like that after my current wood watch dies. But I doubt that will be anytime soon.
For now, a Nooka watch will stay on my wishlist.
Check our the Nooka Asia Facebook Page for more details though, I hear their sunglasses will be gracing our sunny island soon…
Filed under: - Sarah | Tags: Dress, Fall 2010, Nuboaix, Transformation
I first came across Nuboaix’s work at AFF’s Blueprint 2010 and was very taken by this very distinct quality of restraint and, for lack of a better word, stiffness.
This ‘stiffness‘ induced apprehension yet simultaneously possessed an enigmatically disarming charm.

Although the collection is rather small, a lot of thought has gone into these pieces.
There was a lot of unconventional stitching, impeccable structure and high quality fabrics used.

The result demonstrates an stunning amount of creativity which is cleverly and deceptively masked by the remarkable restraint of each piece.
Can you imagine how many hours went into deciding how each stitch, dart, fold, zip, crease, hem and lining would be? Not that other brands don’t put the same amount of thought into their collections too. Just something about Nuboaix that really gets my head spinning about the whole thought process behind each clothing article.
That being said,
What takes the cake, though, are their transformational pieces.

In this Fall 2010 collection entitled ‘macht’, four dual-function pieces take centre stage.
In addition to a dress that unzips & re-zips into a pair of jeans, another dress that morphs into a cape, they have a dress with the guise of a skirt (above)

and one that makes a mean hoodie.
I couldn’t remotely make something like that, even if I tried. Therefore, *kowtows…

I didn’t get a price list but I hope their separates are (much) more affordable then the transformational stunners. Because, honeybee, one of ‘em dresses will set you back. Think four-digits kinda set.you.back. eeps!
Anyway, for now… oogling is still free. (:

Since I have no assistant. no tripod. no prairie in my backyard. And little narcissistic need to take a photo of my outfit, this polaroid (courtesy of Nooka) captures my outfit for PERCENTILE.
Cap-sleeve with random buttons top from Nicholas, Polka dot scarf from Tampines1 stall, Drop-crotch pants from Giordano ladies, Perforated leather flats from New Look, faux ostrich skin bag from St Louis. Holding, a red Nooka watch.
