There are a few reasons why I love Uniqlo. Among them is how affordable, wearable, well-made and innovative the clothes are.

And for a new reason, devastatingly beautifully repackaged and coming soon to a Uniqlo near you…

…the hot-bodied, curly-haired, super-suave male in Orlando Bloom typifying the Japanese brand’s pledge to be “Made for All” – more affordable, wearable, well-made and innovative clothes for us mall rats.

I can’t wait to see more of him with Charlize Theron. I remember when Utt was the face of Giordano in the early 00′s – I lingered outside the stores and gazed into this larger-than-life eyes. Now, I will do anything for my Legolas…

Lulu Guinness launched their latest “Kiss and Makeup” collection last Wednesday with an intimate media gathering at Sole2Sole, where Lulu Guinness retails.

Light refreshments and kooky snacks were served, but more on that later.

This “Kiss and Makeup” collection was inspired by Peggy Moffit who modeled in the sixties.

(Source)

Her eccentric style and crazy eye makeup was a key influence in the designs for this collection.

Even the brownies served were in-sync with the theme… Cute eh?

Had to quickly snap photos before they all disappeared.

One quick look and you can tell that the style is very British.

No shit, Sherlock.

Spot the Union Jack yet?

And it may not really be my cuppa tea, but I can tell why Lulu Guinness boasts celebs such as Katy Perry, Dita von Teese, Emma Watson and Keira Knightley as fans.

Budgets allowing, I must say that some of the pieces are really too cute to pass up. Coin pouches with bulldogs, cat purses, lip clutches are some cute accents that should be added to anyone’s closet (:

Alas, my financial situation (income-less student) does not permit such luxury. Although bagaholicboy did hint that buying online would save one a fair amount as well.

Anyway, to tie up the event with a twist. The lovely Sole2Sole people invited the MINX people to come down and treat everyone to some MINX pampering (:

After all, it IS ‘Kiss and Makeup’ themed.

Jo and I got to pick from a slew of psychedelic options, which is one of the selling points of MINX. Apparently very hot in Hollywood with fans like Twitter Queen, Lady Gaga… MINX is an alternative manicure option for those who want more crazy colour to their lives. Instead of slapping on liquid enamel to your nails and patiently waiting for it to dry, MINX uses a heat-sensitive plastic ‘sticker’ to adhere and heat onto your nails. Don’t worry, no second-degree burns were sustained during this demonstration. (:

Because its a sticker manicure, the colours can afford to be more crazy and in patterns not feasible by the traditional brush-on technique, with basecoat, layer 1, layer 2, top coat and drying till the cows come home.

Yup so there you have it!

A rare photo of Jo and I, thank you Bagaholic for helping to snap this pic (and a couple of other photos as well)

And a (sorta) close-up of our MINX-ed nail. (We were only allowed one nail to zhnng tt day)

The Little Things She Needs

They say it’s the little things that make a big difference. This pretty and petite package dressed herself almost entirely in accessories (multiple rings check, bangles check, necklace check, head thing check, shoes check, some-other-small-items-I’m-not-confident-of-describing check), save for the huge kaftan hanging on her which, on hindsight, also almost looks like a scarf on its own.

She is the personification of the new accessories store, The Little Things She Needs. I’m kinda glad she’s not a 6-feet tall blonde-hair, blue-eyed model from a huge agency and dressed by a hired stylist. She works for one of the seven stores in Jakarta and put together this Asian-Bohemian look with items from their current and upcoming collection, all by herself.

An aside: I never knew pumps would work with a kaftan so well. I would usually just go with something that borders on formal/corporate. Meh.

If you’re a sucker for shoes and accessories, make sure you bring someone in tow to provide emotional support and possibly safe-keep your wallet. If you’re part of Shopaholics Anonymous, do not be within 100 metres of this store. (Or actually, don’t be in Singapore altogether.) It’s floor-to-ceiling walls of really affordable shoes, bags and little things in this new store located in #B3-52 ION Orchard.

Five Stones Vintage

You know how Sarah and I are suckers for our $1/$2 vintage finds? We’re mighty proud of the few legendary pieces that we’ve managed to snag, but that place doesn’t have a steady, or perpetual/intermittent supply of vintage clothes, and vintage found elsewhere in Singapore is generally either smelly, or overpriced.

Five Stones Vintage is a online vintage clothing and accessories store based in Singapore, with their clothing items priced from a very reasonable S$24 upwards.

These two dresses are our picks from the newest additions to the store – a hot pink pin-tucked dress with a long, full skirt, and this really interesting maxi in a thick quilted fabric. Kinda looks like you could wear it in many ways with the tie around the neck.

Nope, vintage clothing isn’t all grandma floral-print, ill-fitting dresses, oversized denim shirts, flannel things or cut-off shorts.

Five Stones Vintage is giving our readers a S$5 rebate on any purchase of S$40 and above for the month of September. Simply check out and pay for your items at full price, drop them an email at fivestonesvintage@gmail.com, and mention “WOTTONCOOL”. E, from Five Stones Vintage will make sure that the rebate gets back to you real quick.

And as with all shopping done online, fastest fingers first.

Go!

Here’s the set up…

The raad (red) lips thing has been round the block several times over.

In fact, in fashion-years it’s probably been to the moon and back. Civilizations have come and gone. And Darwin’s theory of evolution and natural selection has taken it’s course with new trends already making this look bleed from a knock-out punch or two.

Yet, observe…

The wonderous, and beautiful, trickle-down effect.

Its not the model muses sashaying down the runways,
Its not the bloggers whom I voyeuristically follow
Its not the shiny pages of glossies that compels me…

Instead,

After a rather tipsy time with some friends

And an impromptu introduction,

Imma now trying out

Does this look familiar to you, Larissa? Because you won!

Geometric prints and tartan is cool together. Gotta love the extreme proportions with the tiny bandeau and full circle skirt together – though we cannot say that it’s something we’d wear out.  Maybe in our size zero, unsweltering weather dreams. But we’ll definitely dress an imaginary somebody like that.

Drop us an email with your mailing address and a representative of Shopbop will get in touch with you soon. x

:D

These photos are SUPER OVERDUE.

But they are up!

Awhile back, got invited to the opening preview of Doorstep Luxury’s SS2010 spread.

Doorstep Luxury was birthed from the love of all things luxurious, exquisite and (slightly) off the beaten track.

Through extensive sourcing in London and the world over, they bring to the sunny South-Pacific brands such as Bibi van der Velden, Buba London, Cassandra LA, Fleet Ilya, JDauphin, Kaia PeterkaMarilyn Tan, Ragazze Ornamentali, Ranjana Khan, Sabina KasperTimo Weiland, Tina Lilienthal, Tuleste Market, Wendy Nichol, Yazbukey just to name a few…

They had some of the most beautiful bags and jewellery I’ve seen in awhile, and it was very refreshing to see new brands that I ought to be more acquainted with in due time (:

Here are some snaps of the beautiful things available at Doorstep Luxury

And if, like me, you can’t quite afford anything just yet. Join me in the oogling-fr0m-afar… (:

And who can forget, the lovely people behind Doorstep Luxury – Miranda and DY.

To Miranda: Thank you for the invite! And sorry for the late post

Against all odds

Max Tan had “androgyny meets geometry” in mind for his newest collection, Against, but the clothes and photos don’t seem much hermaphroditic – save for the fact that it’s Luth who lent his sharp, angular features and fluid movements to the campaign.

All I can say are that these tailoring-wrong-made-right pieces have a mind-blowingly clean, billowing-geometric quality about them. I’m confused as to what other adjectives to use.

My vocabulary shrinks when I see something so awesome it kills me. So I leave you with: Too gorgeous.
