I have been reading Sea of Shoes, and I must declare my love and infatuation for her Ann Demeulemeester triple lace up boots (as seen here, here and here)

(image from Sea of Shoes)
Aren’t these shoes COOL?!
Does anyone know how I can be the proud owner of a pair (preferably the heeled version)?!?
Have you seen knock offs? Or is anyone travelling to/returning from Seoul, Tokyo or Hong Kong, where their Asian stores are located?!?
[Concurrently, should I wish to purchase a pair, I need to start a 'Help-Sarah-get-her-Ann-Demeulemeester-triple-lace-up-boots Fund'!!! which from what i gather, averages $1256.50!!! (from the all so reliable source called the internet!)]

I just chanced upon local designer, Desmond Yang’s standalone boutique (Abyzz) at Millenia Walk.
I was somewhat shocked to see his store (partly because I didn’t know it existed!) but after a bit of contemplation, I went in for a quick looksee.
Having only see his work on the runway (at SFF 08 Blueprint, as mentioned here) and in print previously. I now openly declare:
I AM A FAN!!! ![]()
While at the store, I did not do extensive browsing (i was late for a meeting) BUT, you can tell that a lot of thought, heart and soul goes into each piece.
The amount of details that you find on EACH piece will leave you flabbergasted! I saw skirts with pleats and pockets, interesting stitching and tops that can be worn either way, front to back or back to front…. I WANT!!! The very friendly staff even pointed out a skirt which has NO SEAMS!?! (how do you make a seamless skirt?? makes me think of sleeping beauty [if you've watched the show, you'd know what i mean]) Price-wise, (i didnt dare look:/) but i think they are all reasonably priced (from the few glimpses that i got)
If price is of no concern to you (and lucky you! what with all the sales going on and the financial crisis) then a wardrobe must-have is an Abyzz piece right off the runways of Shanghai. The friendly staff (i’m sorry i didn’t ask for your name!) said each peice was one-of-a-kind. No one else in the WORLD would have the same dress. And these dresses were INSANE! there were pleats on the sleeves and tie sashes. The fabric looked rather sporty but the silhouettes oozed feminity. words cannot fully describe how gorgeous these dresses are but you’d need to put down a high three-figure sum to be the proud owner on one of these one-of-a-kinds..
For the less fortunate (quite literally), the mainstream (read: mass market) options are a good (and lighter-on-the-pocket) way to go.

shu uemura often teams up with designers from different fields to come up with mind blowing skincare and make-up collections.
This season, they’ve got Mika Ninagawa to add florals and sparkles to their colour palettes, lip gloss trios and cosmetic bags that makes me want to paint flowers and goldfish instead of er… my face, hahahah.

It’s rare to see such vivid colours for characteristically darker (dreary?) autumn/winter seasons. I must admit that I wasn’t familiar with Mika Ninagawa and her works, but now that I’ve seen the rest of her portfolio, there’s hardly anyone else who could so convincing inject all these jarring colours into one cute collection.

She has such an eye for colour and that lends an air of artificiality, or exagerrated reality in all the best ways possible. It makes me wonder how she gets all these colours – it almost looks like a heat/temperature sensor, doesn’t it?
She makes goldfish look so cuddly tooo! Omg I need to *hug/squish* one now.

See how the dress flares out into a floral structure as well? Petals peeling, complete with a long, leggy stamen.

All photographs from Mika Ninagawa
While my friend and I were browsing Mika’s sight, we were totally overwhelmed by the intensity and variety of the colours she used. How do you work with sooo many colours? And despite all these she maintains a very strong sense of Japanese themes, even without the subjects.
Be sure to check out the stills from her movie, Sakuran, as well!

So, I was looking through Juice magazine the other day…

When i came across

Dr. Martens Originals’ Autumn 2008 range is out!! and I am in LOVE with these all-white pair!!! *sarah swoons and sighs like you can’t imagine!!* (thus the insertion of many many exclamation marks
(!!)
But at approximately $200 a pair, i hesitate to shell out the moo-lah for a pair of shoes that’ll dirty quicker than you can blink!
But, then again, it would be fun to try out looks from Limi Feu’s SS09 Collection

Even if i dont have full, volumous, tiered skirts.
So what wil it be?? Go? or No Go?

If you have one or two Singapore fashion blogs on your reader, chances are you would have heard people like Stephie and Dottie of Fashionation wax lyrical about the wondrously affordable and design-savvy footwear and accessories label – Charles & Keith.

I loveee this look with the silver pants and white crisp blazer and shirt. I am so going to get those silver leggings from American Apparel! I’m not sure about sizing though. Help?

All these amazing images are from their lookbook, which I snatched off the shelves in the store, but you can also view them online.
Like the Fashionation girls previously mentioned (argh I really can’t find the link to their post! – help again?) their styling is laudable. Their budget must be pretty admirable too!
I guess they target a really wide range of customers – from teenagers to tai tais (something like socialites) and they are highly successful in terms of branding and selling. They mostly use tall lanky caucasian models strolling the streets of some faraway European city.
Why not a local model, a local venue? I think people should slowly be able to accept local faces or not feel that they water down the image of a brand.
Plus, see what Harper’z Bazaar Singapore did with our landscape!

Via Vogueite
But well, to all those overseas (like The Clothes Horse, if I did not remember wrongly), who want a piece or two of Charles & Keith, their bags, belts, sunglasses and shoes are available online and they ship internationally!
All prices on the website are stated in USD, and they are sadly, more expensive than what we see in the stores, even after currency conversion!
But there is a promotion going on online now! Spend USD100 and get USD10 off – promo code SHOP10, or spend USD120 and get USD20 off – promo code SHOP20

I was going through some blogs and came across an article on drop-crotch pants

image from here
and i can’t fully describe how perplexed I am by who’d wear such pants (that make your legs look shorter than they are)!!!

image from here.
But after looking around some more…

(i cant remember where i got this photo from.. :/)
I find that some people look quite normal in them…

image from here.
Left to right: Stella McCartney Resort 09, The Sartorialist, Dries Van Noten AW 08/09 (according to the site)
like me, are you wondering…how do they make it look so normal?!
this is my formula/theory:
Mid/High waist + stand with feet close together = well put together drop-crotch pants (with accompanying outfit)
hahas. (but even with this formula, i dont have the courage to try them.. yet!)
would you give drop-crotch pants a go??

Earlier this year, Jo and I attended Blueprint 2008 during the Singapore Fashion Festival 2008.
During that show, there was a scarf with pockets.

Photo from here
I thought it was such a neat concept.
Then recently, my sister went to Indonesia and got this jacket.

The way it looks from the front, made me think of that scarf.. This jacket with pocket details AND a hood is super cool.
COOLEST about it though…

thats the back (or lack thereof) !!!
Just thought i’d share it with everyone (:

Unlike the over-the-top light fixture contraptions of Viktor and Rolf’s Fall 2007 RTW, Chanel’s Fall 2008 Couture collection saw a handful of models donning frames.

At first sight, the frames distracted me from the clothes. Yet the more I look at the images, the more I take notice of various details of the pieces worn by the models.
Overall, the collection appeared architectural. Even with softer fabrics, details in the layers and pleats were all so purposeful.

Karl Lagerfeld is one lean, mean, designing machine! With all the labels he heads, plus having to come up with new and innovative things, or simply re-inventing classics, season after season… I wonder how fast his mind must work.
And, really, kudos to anyone who could come up with this hoodie.

Even if its purely decorative. even if my big head couldnt fit with all those camellias. I LIKE!!!!!!
