Before hitting the books hard on Monday, attended a friend’s 21st birthday celebrations where we were all also celebrating the last day of school (and finishing my module assignment early!)
After dinner and before arriving at Double-O, we were all given glow-in-the-dark bracelets. The ones you buy in packs of 50 and only about 10 actually work well.
Usually, I wear them (good and not-so-good) in this random jumble… But this time, they were arranged in gradient. I quite like it! hahas
So totally random, but don’t you like my temporary bling?!
Had to make up for my blah outfit that night. (:

A (very) distant time ago, I managed to catch the music video of ‘Nevermind Me’ by Maria Mena.
If you’ve never heard of her, I don’t blame you. I’ve only seen her video twice. Once, in full, and the other was a smidgen of the ending :/ Yet, there was something about the video…

It showed her wandering around the place in a bear (?) costume, searching for this guy dressed in a cow costume.
Plus the song (and the rest of her music) is very nice! But her CDs are hard to find. ):
Anyway, my reason for posting was to share this image of a necklace she purchased and posted on her official, though sporadically updated, blog.

The teal flowers are so fat and juicy-looking! Doesn’t it remind you of mangosteen?!

Perhaps its a culmination of volunteering for Earth Hour, Dadaism (art history influences), boredom and the ‘i’ll do anything but study’ mood.
I’ve accumulated a new necklace/bracelet plus several rings in the past week. And all this without forking a cent!!
Introducing ready-made jewelery using found objects!

Fish paperclip necklace and milk carton freshness-sealer tab ring (:
These precious pieces were part of my Uniqlo Store Preview outfit ensemble.

The fish paperclips were a gift from my younger sister. (You can get them at Popular Bookstore and I hear that there are many other paperclip designs too!! I am soooo going to check them out
:D:D). While studying, I got bored and thought it’d look cute. They can also be a bracelet or two. Perhaps I should get more to make a longer necklace too! Loving the options!! (:
And depending on the size of the carton you purchase, you can end up with ‘rings’ of different sizes and colours

I can’t wait to collect more and even cut patterns or add bling to my rings!! hehes.
Make a statement and save our planet too!

We don’t usually do the christmas stocking thing over here in Singapore, but just in case you were looking for something small to tickle my fancy…

My recent tower of essays, reports and word limits due in school for various deadlines make me one of few words, but not too few to tell you how much I’m in love with weaves and knits.

Wear & Tear Weaving Tape Necklace, USD82

Wear & Tear Weave Leather & Brass Tape Necklace, USD82

Wear & Tear Weave Tape Suede Bracelet, USD55
Could I make these on my own?
I recently followed camille’s tutorial on making a shredded tee, partly due to a school project on new retail concepts and something to do with modifying basic clothing items. I think stretchier knits produce a nicer shredded effect.

I must say that I’m quite pleased with the result and I was extremely fascinated with how the thread runs and loops and makes all these squiggly lines. This probably contributed to my sudden weave/knit/crochet obsession.

Daydream Nation Multi Colour Yarn Crochet Link Necklace, USD140

Daydream Nation Wool Crochet Collar Necklace, USD139
This may sound strange to you, but I feel so gratified just looking at a nice, generous, thick, decipherable pattern of different materials. Mmm.

Chamomile, dragon well, earl grey, buddha’s tears, tie guan yin, oolong, gyojuro, sencha, genmaicha, pu’er, peppermint… I think I pretty much am a tea person when it comes to the breakfast beverage.
“Tea for Two” is also one of my favourite songs.
To add to my list of loves for tea-related things – t43 jewellry, Tea for Three jewellry.
The threesome – Serene Wong, Nana Akashi and Szufen Huang, who design separate collections with a unifying theme of tea, hail from Central Saint Martins. t43 expresses their friendship and their favourite pastime (It’s mine too! Let’s be friends! haha)

Have you seen tea that comes in the shape of a ball? I was pretty intrigued by it because it actually opens up into a flower when you brew it. Szufen Huang’s Art collection is inspired by this tea – Hua Kai Fu Gui.
Those transluscent, pretty pleats are actually made with silk organza.
Seems pretty much like tea to me! A clear transluscent quality doesn’t necessarily mean a weak brew. These neck and wrist candy are pretty strongg.

Elaborate tea bags and boxes should always be used for decoration and furnishing. It’s even cuter when you wear them around your cuffs, or dangling from a ring – like Nana Akashi’s Tea collection. It’s like you’re really dunking a bag into the teacup!
All the teabags read T43 JEWELLRY, in no less than a hoity-toity serif font that will send your next door neighbour (preferably English) into fits of jealousy.

Smoke (and maybe scent) tendrils are always sexy. Stylise it and you take it up a notch. Scent is Serene Wong’s collection of fluid, organic, acrylic pieces. I never really thought those three words could exist in the same sentence.
Don’t they seem like they’re dizzying the model with the nice wafting fragrance?
I would totally buy it.
Quite clever that the three collections are called ART, TEA and SCENT. Artisan.
Get some t43 action at M Boutique, 47A Haji Lane, Singapore. I’m clueless about the prices, but I don’t think they’ll come cheaply
There’s nothing like slowly brewing tea and waiting for it to simmer then finally have it reach my lips. Ah. I’ll try and do the same with this collection. Wait for it to magically appear on my wrists and neck.
Get your next caffeine kick with tea! (It’ll help you lose weight too, or so I heard.)

BAYLENE
If you’re curious as to what our tiny island produces in the field of fashion and design, Baylene would give you a pretty good idea of the burgeoning local scene.
If you’re excited at the idea of having a piece of Singapore in your closet (especially after the world has seen the first night race ever – poor Kimi!), you’d be happy to know that Baylene now has an online store that sells their wares to the world!

(Psst, remember the chameleon-like Kelly? I didn’t know she was called Kelly then.)
It’s a nice simple layout, easy to navigate – makes you want to buy more!
There are individual garment measurements, additional pictures to show more views and other ways in which you can wear the item.

Pictures from Baylene.com
You’ll find that all the pieces encourage lots of layering and experimenting – sheer panels, lack of sleeves, extra buttons, holes or loops, deconstructed shapes, one size fits all kinds designs you can think up.
I don’t know about you, but my closet begs for more Baylene!
For now, they’re having a 50-70% off at the shop in Stamford House #01-04 from today till 2 October. Baylene will also be at Fash Bash!

SINGAPORE F1 GRAND PRIX
Back to the F1 fever that struck Singapore over the past week – I beamed a bit seeing that our tiny place looked so pretty under the building lights and track lights and ooohhh, just the whole atmosphere.

Pictures from Channelnewsasia.com
I was so impressed with everything! The crowd, the driving, the drama, the circuit. *continues to beams madly*

KVLT MAGAZINE

Then there’s KVLT magazine’s second issue – Loveless. Go and immerse yourself in some candid spreads and features on art, music and fashion.

This issue they interview the designers of MadCornerShop and Vice & Vanity!
Like they say – All stories have been told; KVLT just tells it better.

VICE AND VANITY
Coincidentally, Vice & Vanity is available at Baylene, and also online. When they were still “new” I was kinda skeptical about their presence. Firstly, I don’t buy many accessories – what more acrylic pieces at prices I am not yet willing to pay! Then I realised, everyone isn’t me.

I guess they kinda grew on me. I really like the collars in their most recent collection.

Was that too much of Singapore in a day?

I remember about 4 or 5 years ago, my friends and I would down a regular can of soft drink and then pluck out the can tab and keep it in our coin compartment of our wallet. All these can tabs would then go to Sarah, who was going to make a can tab/wire tree for her art project.
The idea was novel! It seemed so cool to make such a pretty thing out of something as insignificant and tiny as a can tab.
But look here!

When I saw Maison Martin Margiela’s Can Tab Cascade necklace, and bracelet and ring, I was instantly reminded of Sarah’s sculpture!
I think I might have to start forcing my friends to give me their can tabs too. DIY for the win!
