You know that feeling when you return from your shopping trip lots of loot in hand, fully laden? I love the feeling of carrying many shopping bags like you’ve just got the best buy in a lonngggg time.

Ah.

I got the same feeling resisting the temptation to buy all the things I saw at all the sales in town today.

Ah.

Yes so my hands were empty when I returned home. It’s so odd, but don’t you feel the same way too?
“Yay I have successfully kept my money where it should belong!”
“Sales doesn’t mean cheap, doesn’t mean I have to buy them!”
“Liberation from my usually compulsive behaviour!”

Seeing Red

Sarah loved the lady with the red bicycle frame and red tights (as in Jo’s bicycle post)

so much that she got

A pair of red flats from Andre Valentino @ the Robinson’s Sale.

Its my first non-neutral coloured pair of shoes and I’m EXCITED!! (even though I’m a bit apprehensive of what to match them with) I can’t wait to experiment!! :D

A black phase.

As promised, here are Sarah’s purchases from the felt sale. I bought 7 items, totalling $585. (can’t quite believe i spent SO much money! but compared to the original prices, I save a whole lot of money) and after taking photographs of all my purchases, I realised that almost all my purchases were black.

1. A Zambesi tank top. long and black, with small sequins down the front. The back is plain.

2. A munk tee, with an asymmetrical neck detail.

3. A Hansel halter top. I like that the lace is in black. It looks delicate without looking too feminine. (as compared with the white version)

4. A Laurie Foon tank top with silver stitching of a swan. Its rather plain looking but the swan makes me really happy. (: hahas.

5. A pair of Hansel pants. (My ONLY non-black item) its a cropped pant. Very simple pair of pants. I affectionately call them safari pants.

6. A pair of Tina Borg pants. For some abnormal reason, these pant legs are unusually long. When i wear them, there is excess fabric about 5 inches long. :/ I have to get them altered. But the details at the knees was too good to resist!

7. A Lisa Ho belt. My most pricey purchase of the lot, but possibly my favourite! The cut-outs in the leather make it very unique.

So there you go, my purchases from the felt sale. Won’t be shopping for awhile now. But i’m very happy with my buys! (:

UPDATE!

ok, my exams are over and Jo has been bugging me to update.

There were several interesting finds at the felt sale.

First up were pear-shaped coats by Jayson Brunsdon, fully lined, all seams hidden, in jim thompson-esque thai silk.

The material was stiff enough to create a scrunched effect but was not stiff enough to make to collar area have more volume. It gave me the impression of ‘neither here nor there’. Moreover, there weren’t any buttons so you’d either have to find your own brooch or leave it as it is. (Jo thought she looked like an onion) We didn’t get them, but they were really fun to play in. hehes

and Jo, had some flasher tendencies

(she did something like that again on the train today, but it was an attempt to keep me and a friend warm on the journey home)

There was also a Hansel jacket.

Top: Marks and Spencer’s tank top

Jacket: Hansel Sample Jacket

Bottoms: by Melly

Shoes: Charles and Keith boots <3!

AND a Zambesi wrap top (that strikes me as a more wearable version of Balenciaga’s Spring ‘08 RTW collection) even though it is from the Winter 2006 collection.

Photos from Zambesi and Style.com

But the Zambesi wrap at felt was in a dark blue fabric with red and pink ovals. (if you click on the Zambesi link, the colour is called ‘confetti’)

The model’s hair covers the shoulder details partially but the silhouette is similar. What I like about the Zambesi wrap is the tie at the waist, even if tied loosely, it still creates an hourglass figure.

By the way, does anyone have a camera to recommend? I’d prefer to post better quality photographs for everyone’s benefit. My budget is about $500 (I suppose) [even though I don’t have money to spare after all my purchases from felt

Bazaars/Fleas - Flea & Easy Fashion Elite Edition

Sarah and I braved the winds, rain, clouds and crowds to arrive at Zouk last Sunday for Flea & Easy, the Fashion Elite Edition.

Upon entering the tunnel we were greeted with a horde of people which were not at all representative of the blizzard mob of humans that were in the main area. Crowd control, anyone?

For some strange reason, (our instincts must have met in mid air and locked pinkies) we automatically sniffed our way to the hansel stall to scour for samples. But Abracadabra wasn’t there! The space was so tiny they had to pack away most of the stuff and only display those pieces that have survived at least two previous sample sales.

It was Sarah’s field day of buys and trys. She is succumbing to vintage, and I, to futuristic! Gasp. She used to not understand why people are so interested and intrigued by vintage stuff. It’s second-hand, it’s probably smelly, maybe it carries some diesease! I never could appreciate shiny stuff in the weirdest of shapes and proportions.

Anyway, here is her stash!

img_8236.jpg
$5 Sesame Street t-shirt

img_8237.jpg
$20 Vintage mustard accordian pleats dress. Quite pretty!

img_8238.jpg
$8 Printed cropped jacket. She wore it to Blueprint with her boots and it was awesome. Say “Aw-we-soo-meh!”

She bought another long white dress for $20 as well but she didn’t let me take a photo of it!

If you have a penchant for non-monogram bags, luggages and purses that turns as many heads (if not more - especially since there are so many monogrammed stuff that you can walk past ten without batting an eyelid) as the former, hunt down some pieces on sale and markdown by Aussie label, Catherine Manuell Design at Felt, located at #01-18 Capitol Building, from 3-6 April (Thursday-Sunday).
