Treasure chest

We don’t know how this happens, but every time Marilyn Tan shows us a new piece of jewellry, we cooo and ooooohhh and make pinky promises to save up for oh,  yet another piece that we say we’ll add to our imaginary treasure chest.

While girls all over are stacking rings and two-finger rings and cuffs and bracelets bracelets and bascially anything that will pass off as jewellry, here are two stunning U-rings with a precious stone on each end. For a moment it felt like they were the only two things that would ever sit on digits henceforth. (My bad for not remembering the names because we were busy making incomprehensible noises of wonderment.)

Then there are these lambskin and leather bracelets that are available in Doorstep Luxury, which come in more than eight different colours and can be looped together to wear as a necklace or belt too. You know how much we’re suckers for multi-wear stuff.

More to come in her December showcase!

Yves Saint Laurent at MBS

The French fashion house, Yves Saint Laurent, has, to me, always been synonymous with an understated simplicity and insurmountable elegance. Credited for the introduction of a women’s tuxedo suit, Le Smoking, which is probably the sexiest name you could have for a suit. (; Yves Saint Laurent started his career working at the House of Dior, before starting his own fashion house.

Despite the passing of the designer in 2008, YSL still remains a powerhouse in the industry, backed by parent company, The Gucci Group.

Last Friday night was no exception to YSL’s promise of everything luxe, sophisticated and stylish as Jo and I rubbed shoulders with fashion’s elite at YSL’s Marina Bay Sands boutique opening. The party was in full swing when we arrived with guests merrily mingling and dipping into their deep pockets to add YSL A/W2010 to their wardrobes.

We were drinking champagne and nibbling on hors d’oeuvres amongst signature pieces like the ponyhair fringe pumps and arty rings, which Jo was very tempted to acquire. And, which I also assume should be sold out by now because they retail for only $280. The rings, I mean.

I could only oogle from afar as I observed guests trying (and buying) shoes, bags and accessories all around me while I, happily, clutched my new iPad (: but more on that later.

For now, I can only lust about my future YSL bag.

Hanging out with Jo and Bagaholicboy too much is not good for the bank account balance…

“I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.”

Tea for Me

Chamomile, dragon well, earl grey, buddha’s tears, tie guan yin, oolong, gyojuro, sencha, genmaicha, pu’er, peppermint… I think I pretty much am a tea person when it comes to the breakfast beverage.

“Tea for Two” is also one of my favourite songs.

To add to my list of loves for tea-related things – t43 jewellry, Tea for Three jewellry.

The threesome – Serene Wong, Nana Akashi and Szufen Huang, who design separate collections with a unifying theme of tea, hail from Central Saint Martins. t43 expresses their friendship and their favourite pastime (It’s mine too! Let’s be friends! haha)

Have you seen tea that comes in the shape of a ball? I was pretty intrigued by it because it actually opens up into a flower when you brew it. Szufen Huang’s Art collection is inspired by this tea – Hua Kai Fu Gui.

Those transluscent, pretty pleats are actually made with silk organza.

Seems pretty much like tea to me! A clear transluscent quality doesn’t necessarily mean a weak brew. These neck and wrist candy are pretty strongg.

Elaborate tea bags and boxes should always be used for decoration and furnishing. It’s even cuter when you wear them around your cuffs, or dangling from a ring – like Nana Akashi’s Tea collection. It’s like you’re really dunking a bag into the teacup!

All the teabags read T43 JEWELLRY, in no less than a hoity-toity serif font that will send your next door neighbour (preferably English) into fits of jealousy.

Smoke (and maybe scent) tendrils are always sexy. Stylise it and you take it up a notch. Scent is Serene Wong’s collection of fluid, organic, acrylic pieces. I never really thought those three words could exist in the same sentence.

Don’t they seem like they’re dizzying the model with the nice wafting fragrance? :D I would totally buy it.

Quite clever that the three collections are called ART, TEA and SCENT. Artisan.

Get some t43 action at M Boutique, 47A Haji Lane, Singapore. I’m clueless about the prices, but I don’t think they’ll come cheaply :x

There’s nothing like slowly brewing tea and waiting for it to simmer then finally have it reach my lips. Ah. I’ll try and do the same with this collection. Wait for it to magically appear on my wrists and neck.

Get your next caffeine kick with tea! (It’ll help you lose weight too, or so I heard.)

Djurdjica Kesic

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Djurdjica Kesic seems to pluck ideas from just about anywhere and translate them into jewellry and other objects (objects! like something from a part of an installation, maybe?) that inch their way into my giant book of desirables.

Armed with a diploma in metalsmithing and degree in interior design, Djurdjica churns out fluid, organic, raw, but conceptually profound jewellry.

Take a look at these!

Vessel
Vessel ring that conceptually contains, carries, transports what is personal to one. The dimensions and form for this ring stems from the body, emerging from the contours of the hand.

Pebbles
This ring series reflects interest in exploring the notion of preciousness within the seemingly non-valuable. The rarity of the material is not any longer the defining aspect that renders the object precious.

Transitions

In the ‘Transitions’ series the starting point is an old, reclaimed chair. Through observing its function, form and materiality and through a series of interventions, a number of jewellery pieces have emerged.
Transience occurs on a number of levels: from one form to another, from one function to another, from one context to another.
Additionally, yet another transition took place: the chair that once housed the body ended up being housed (worn) by the body itself.

What is not to like? Change, transience, transition, transformation piques my interest. I love the transitions series.

I hated doing preparatory work when I was doing art at ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels – why can’t I just start on whatever I like and want, whenever?

But now I see that sometimes it’s the thought that goes into the pieces that makes it so – awesomely – cool

(Ashamed) Actually, I’m not sure if Djurdjica is a he/she ): Care to verify?
