Mall and more

Today, Sarah and I visited (in the words of my friend,) the social stratification in retail, that is ION Orchard.

Lots of luxury labels to lust over, what with their new fangled layouts, interior designs, never-before-seen collections and gimmicky limited editions all from level 1 upwards, and the affordable street wear, fast fashion chains lurking below..

While it only makes for shopping sense and commercial viability to have malls laid out like that (think Ngee Ann City and Paragon), somehow whole idea of the rich trampling on the lower income levels just seems super amplified in ION because of its massive massiveness. Everything kinda feels magnified.

As you ride the escalator up from basement 1 to level 1, you cannot help but notice all these indoor shades-wearing tai tais toting their airy fairy selves, flitting from one boutique to another. (Yes, that sentence harbours part jealousy and part amusement..)

You don’t see them in the basement AT ALL!!!!! Maybe except in… Zara. I love the new Zara in ION. The low lighting makes everything dreamy and floaty and I’m head over heels over all the fur gilets.

Anyway. Just…. saying. Heh.

Everyone loves a new place to stop at!

My first comment to Jo as we descended into the basement(s) of Ion Orchard, being that it was my first time there and all, was… “this is a fire hazard…” 😀
